Morphix Linux

Morphix Linux is yet another project built on top of the Knoppix basic structure. This one has a twist; the whole idea of the project is to create your own LiveCD, so you can have all your favorite tools and toys whatever computer you walk up to. It is being developed as an Open Source project at Sourceforge, and the basic builds include a Game, KDE, Gnome, and LightGUI version. Many other builds are available from non-sourceforge sites, and are linked to.

Because of that, there are a lot of tools and components not normally found in a boot-from-CD build, but what they are changes with every specialized creation. And they make it very easy to create your own custom Linux LiveCD, by offering the Morphix Base module, complete instructions, and several tools (Minimodule Generator, Trom).

The Boot screen gives you a range of options, from running it entirely in RAM, through installing the VAR directory on your windows hard drive, all the way to a full install that doesn't (or does, if you prefer) repartition your hard drive. That's besides the normal stuff, like screen resolution, RAM, etc. If you are low on RAM, one of the ISO's is the LightGUI version, great for older computers.

  Linux Build: Debian

Desktop: Defaults to KDE, also has Gnome and a few others.

Hard Drive Used: Anywhere from none to 2 Gig, depending on the Boot choice you make.

  Programs Included:
Depends on which Build you download. The Gamer's build is very popular, they also have a build for the office and one for the network geek. In fact, they have a build for a lot of interests, and if you do one of your own, please upload and share it with the community.

Pros: Great Network setup, with lots of network tools. Wide range of hardware supported; Updated often, with new installation choices with every new release.

Cons: Doesn't give you back the disk when you Halt or shutdown; you have to hit the drive-open button when you reboot to go back to windows.
