KnoppixLinux

  KnoppixLinux has the best Astronomy software I have yet seen built in, and a world-class arsenal of Multimedia Tools. It writes a file to your hard drive in the Root directory (C:\ for Windoze users) called Knop, and has a wide range of Network, Internet, and System Recovery Utilities. When you go to Logout, rather than giving you a new Login Option, it actually logs out and ejects the CD, so you can boot back into your native environment. Knopper supports the OpenMusic/GrennMusic project and has full software support for it in this build, including Ogg Vorbis players. I am pretty sure there is an encoder in there, but I haven't had time to find it yet. LOL.

  Linux Build: Debian Linux.

  Desktop: Defaults to KDE3, also has Gnome, OpenOffice, TWM, and FailSafe.

  Hard Drive Used: About 200K, in a Swap and Config file format.

  Programs Included:
    OpenOffice1.0 (Windows Compatable Office2K);
    Konquorer3, KMail, KICQ, gAIM, gFTP, Gnapster, Netscape4.76, more...
    Asteroids, FreeCiv (server and client), Turing, Mahjong, Reversi, Tron, more...

  Pros: Great Network setup, but no DHCP detection; needs manual config or download and install of dhcpcd daemon. Wide range of hardware supported; KDE3, with most programs accessable, and everything else available from the Boot Prompt.

  Cons: Updated to KDE3 system, needs a bit of work to save settings.
